Hurricane Irma Rescue!

In all of my years of rescue, I have never been part of a hurricane-related rescue, so I was thrilled to take part in a massive effort last week that involved a handful of Bay Area rescues along with two NBA teams, and Fed Ex! It was really quite incredible, given all the moving parts, but the Miami Heat and Fed Ex paid for the actual rescue work and flight to Oakland Airport, and the Golden State Warriors were on-hand to receive the animals along with Animal Care & Control, Marin Humane, Hopalong Rescue, Peninsula Humane and SPCA, the SPCA of Monterey and the national ASPCA as well. It was overwhelming to see so many people and organizations coming together to help these stranded animals. Overall there were over 150 dogs and cats airlifted to Oakland, where they were offloaded and divvied up by the rescues. Here are some of the photos I took, and if you are interested in one of these animals please check with your local rescue!

This is the pilot who flew the plane. The last I heard she wanted to adopt this dog!

Zaza Pachulia of the Warriors lends a hand.

Jordan Bell of the Warriors was on-hand to meet the pups.

This was the entire rescue team – it was truly a massive endeavor!

Bless you all for the work you have done. Every time I hear about a catastrophe I worry about the poor babies that are left behind. When the hurricane hit Key West I was so afraid for the Hemmingway cats and all the cat colonies that live their. I donate to five animal charities and I wish I could do more. Thank god their are groups like yours.
